Acupuncture
Why acupuncture and ear acupuncture (auricular therapy) are growing in popularity.
What is Acupuncture?
· One modality of TCM
Acupuncture is one modality in the system of healing known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The focus is on specific points on the skin along "meridians". These points correspond to various organs and systems within the body - the acupuncturist stimulates these to encourage the body to heal itself.

Acupuncture pain...
Acupuncture pain is a great concern - especially among those with a fear of needles. Surprisingly acupuncture is almost free of any discomfort - less than a mosquito. This is because the needles are a very very small diameter and the acupuncturist inserts them with care. Considering the success rate of acupuncture in treating a wide variety of conditions - like weight loss, addiction therapy, back pain, etc. - patients' negative preconceptions of acupuncture pain are eliminated.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the skin. This stimulates specific points in the body with the aim of increasing the body's physiological efficiency and well-being. Besides treating a wide variety of conditions, acupuncture therapy translates into a feeling of vitality and mental clarity.
Ear Acupuncture or Auricular Therapy
Ear acupuncture, also known as auricular therapy or auriculotherapy, is widely used for many conditions, including addiction treatment, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and other conditions. The ear acupuncture points help to regulate the body's internal organs, structures, and functions. Auriculotherapy has a long history of use in China. It was mentioned in the most famous of ancient Chinese medical textbooks, "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine." In modern times, ear acupuncture therapy has been shown to stimulate the release of endorphins, the body's own feel-good chemicals.
Ear acupuncture is done by placing 4 to 6 small beads/needles in specific areas of the ear. Beads/needles are taped in place and left in the ear for 5 to 7 days allowing the patient to stimulate these points and take part in their own process of healing. Ear acupuncture can be beneficial for treating tobacco or alcohol dependence, drug addictions, concentration problems, pain issues, and many other conditions.
How does acupuncture work?
The question of how acupuncture works has been the subject of much speculation and even apprehension. Although acupuncture may be viewed by some as alternative medicine, it predates Western medical knowledge and practices by thousands of years and has been successfully used by many many millions of people.
The Chinese discovered thousands of years ago that meridians of energy ran throughout the body, and that certain points could be stimulated to encourage healing and balance within the bodily system. In a way, Acupuncture is a form of "heal thyself" because it encourages the body to use its own mechanisms in developing resilience to stress, illness, and injury. It was for this reason that acupuncture was originally used as preventative medicine, and confirms that our bodies are "wonderfully made".

Group Acupuncture Sessions
Monday 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
Imperial Herb Clinic is offering $25.00 group acupuncture sessions and ear acupuncture sessions.
Group acupuncture is a less formal approach to acupuncture that allows the patient to experience the benefits of acupuncture without the lengthy appointments and puncture by many needles. Acupuncture is performed in one room with 1-3 other patients, allowing the healing energy to be contained in one space. 6 to 10 needles are inserted at the extremities and treatments last generally 30 minutes. No disrobing is necessary. These treatments can be very beneficial for alleviating stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, some pain issues and for general health maintenance/preventative medicine.
$25.00 group acupuncture and ear acupuncture sessions will be held every Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. No appointment is necessary at Imperial Herb Clinic. Bring your family and friends. Balance and heal naturally!
